The tips for cnc machining sample order

For a professional CNC machine manufacturer , every year we will kep getting different customer inquiries . Since we are a professional  OEM and ODM cnc turning parts factory ,so it is necessary to explain how we get order and communicate with customers first.

How to place sample order ?

Our factory is professionally supplies different types of pipe fittings with OEM/ODM cnc turning service online .we keep receiving differnt type steel fittings with various requirements . However, our company’s product positioning determines the precision level of our manufacturing equipment, and this equipment precision in turn means that we only accept customers whose requirements match our machining accuracy.

1- Get inquiry from customer .

Study and get the detail contact from customer .

2-Study sample or drawings.

sample detail

-Product name or model
– Material
– Dimensions and tolerances
– Quantity
– Surface treatment and heat treatment requirements

Drawings / Files detail :
– 2D drawings or 3D files (STEP / IGES / PDF)
– Additional notes for special processes or functional requirements

3-Production & Inspection Requirements:

– Machining accuracy / tolerance level
– Surface roughness / plating or polishing specifications
– Inspection method (dimensional measurement, functional test, etc.)

4. Delivery Time:

– Sample production lead time
– Shipping method

5-. Remarks:

– Special instructions or precautions
– Samples are for verification only and do not guarantee mass production quality.

Why it is necessary for produce sample before cnc machining ?

  •  Quality standard

For custom steel fitting , there is one serious problem , that we are not clear about the customer’s detailed requirements。

It is possible that  customer demand is lower or higher than factory demand ,If the requirement is lower than the factory standard, the customer will accept the goods and pay the balance.

If the requirement is higher than the factory standard, the quality may not meet the customer’s expectation, and payment may be rejected.   If we not produce a sample first before mass production, the factory could suffer significant losses.

  • Time Costs

For wholesalers and companies, time is often a hidden cost. Skipping the sample stage may seem faster, but it can lead to delays due to rework, quality disputes, or additional communication.

  • Benefits of Producing a Sample

    1-Prevent Rework

If mass production starts directly, errors could lead to returns or batch rework. Small-batch samples allow problems to be detected early, reducing the risk of defective products and saving significant time.

    2-Optimize the Production Process

The sample stage allows testing of tools, equipment, and machining parameters, helping to determine the most efficient process for mass production.

    3-Reduce Logistics and Management Time

Errors in large-scale production can require extra storage, shipping, and communication efforts. Sample production minimizes these additional management tasks.

What easy happen in sample order ?

  • Price

Sample price is usually higher than the batch production .

  • Delivery time

Customer always need samples urgent fast ,but in reality.

Good factory never lack of order , the sample and batch production always slow .

Bad factory lack of order ,but the quality is bad but delivery time is fast .

FAQ: CNC Sample Orders

Q1: Can the sample guarantee the same quality as mass production?
A: Samples are for verification purposes; they help confirm specifications but do not guarantee identical quality in mass production.

Q2: What happens if the sample does not meet my requirements?
A: The sample stage allows adjustments to design, machining process, or material before bulk production, minimizing rework and losses.

Q3: What are common issues in sample orders?
A: Issues can include unclear specifications, urgent delivery requests, or miscommunication on special requirements.

Q4: How do you handle urgent sample requests?
A: We prioritize urgent requests when possible, but realistic lead times are necessary to ensure quality and accuracy.
